The fracturing of the vertebral bone in the spine due to osteoporosis is called lumbar compression fracture. Older men and women suffer from osteoporosis which is the lead cause of the fracture. The symptoms of the fracture include acute pain in the back, decrease in height, stooping of the backbone and limited spinal mobility. Women suffer from the problem more than men as osteoporosis is common in menopausal women.
Getting the correct diagnosis of the problem is essential to get the relevant treatment. Often back pain and other symptoms are associated with general pain and no specific treatment required for the fracture is given. This aggravates the situation further requiring aggressive treatment methods.
